Interior of a large ship flexing in heavy seas

  1. Have you hugged your welder lately?

  2. You can see the same thing in a large jet if there are no bulkheads (walls) too close. Flex is good.

    1. I've felt it and seen it sitting in the very rear of a 747 flying from US to China. Long flight, not much else to pay attention to.

Better still is the crush of the bulkheads of a submarine as it dives from the surface to 1000+ feet

    2. Saw the same in a stretched 707 - LA to Iwakuni, Japan - 19 1/2 hours.

  3. Suddenly, the thought that this thing was built by the lowest bidder comes to mind...........

  5. Early Liberty ships could crack in half and sink very quickly. Large steel reinforcing plates were welded onto already-built ships to stiffen them.
