Oooh, this will be interesting

Word is that after Thanksgiving, Justice Kennedy on the Supreme Court will retire.  Must be true as The Donald just recently identified five people he'd pick from for the next nominee to fill such a vacancy.

A solid, solid constitutionalist needs to go in.  Then, when Ruth kicks, we can add one more and really have a court that will protect our constitutional rights.

I've always felt that if The Donald does only one thing as president, and that is to prevent the "living constitution" people from getting control, then his presidency can be considered a success.

It was always shocking to me that the nation was just one Supreme Court justice away from an avalanche of decisions that would severely curtail our rights as citizens, and turn us into subjects of the government rather than free men and women.

  1. It only takes one generation, and we've now had TWO generations of mostly idiots. When the grandparents die and Trump leaves office, I look for the buzzards to start circling.

    1. Yep, but the day of reckoning is delayed, and that gives the country time to come to it's senses. We could have been looking at a court that was hostile to the idea of individual rights, and to the very constitution and principles upon which the country was founded. We dodged a bullet.

  3. It seems SCOTUS is treading water, waiting for a changing of the guard in one direction or the other. In the meantime, they're dodging constitutional issues and giving cert to picking-the-fly-shit-out-of-the-pepper cases.

  4. I agree we've dodged a big bullet all right. Bigger than many may think.

If President Trump hadn't been elected, there may have been an armed insurgency. I recently read "Enemies Foreign and Domestic," and it may be a novel but it reads too much like a documentary of what might have been.

Obama was, remember, the Greatest Gun Salesman of All Time. About the only one of his many titles that is actually true!
