That right there is one big log

  1. Believe it or not, I cut an oak down last year that was that big...or close. The 18" thick rounds I cut for firewood weighed in at about 1250 lbs EACH. I had to use the tractor to pick 'em up and put 'em on the splitter.

    so, figure the log in the piecture is 20 feet long, so that log weighs about 8 tons. If it is 30 feet long, 12+ tons, give or take.

    1. Sounds like one massive old tree. Wonder how old it was?

  2. We counted some rings and did some measurements and did an extrapolation. It was at least 175 years old. You could track droughts with the very thin spacing on some of the rings.
